Diplomatic Relationships

         Diplomatic relations among countries around the Indian Ocean dates back to the past. These links have been strengthened in modern times.Sri lanka has strengthened these links with the countries around the Indian Ocean, by these links with the countries around the Indian Ocean, by setting up embassies. It is hoped that diplomatic relations will lead to the development of trade as well as cultural links and create mutual cooperation in defense and security.  Below is a list of countries in the region, with which sri lanka has diplomatic embassies.

India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE)

TORISM

        Sri lanka is famous as a tourist destination due to her geographical location, places of historical interest and natural splendor. For example 566,200 tourists visited our island in the year 2004 . Of this 198,068 came from Asian countries. Amongst these 105,151 came from India and 9,638 from Pakistan. Similarly a large number of Sri Lankans tour India to visit Buddhist sites and also travel to Saudi Arabia on pilgrimage to Mecca. Large numbers of Sri Lankans also go abroad for employment.
